Re: All green

Hi!!

Yes, I would say P. violaceus male too. Males often have this greenish colour.
There aren't similar large species in SW France, only P. pusillus, which considerably is smaller and with a different habitus.

Nice shots.
Cheers

Re: Chrysid 2

I think it is Pseudomalus pusillus (female), but I am not an expert!

Best regards,
Henrik

Re: Pseudomalus pusillus?

Paolo, thanks! I didn't think about it that it could be the male (and therefore a slightly different habitus).

Re: Pseudomalus pusillus?

Hi! Welcome back!

This is a beautiful male of Pseudomalus violaceus (Scopoli).
It is often green to greenish or green-bluish, in contrast with the violet or bluish colour of the females.

Cheers
Paolo

Pseudomalus violaceus, male (Scopoli)

I'm not sure if I'm correct. Is it possible to id this beautiful Chrysis? There were two species in my garden today (I presume). One of them Pseudomalus violaceus (I think).
Pseudomalus pusillus (?), today in my garden, the southern parts of The Netherlands.

Re: ? Pseudomalus pusillus (Fabricius, 1804), male

Hi, Paolo.
Well,
I'll look for keys of similar species in the books of A. Semenov-Tian-Shanskij,
thank you and good wishes,
Vladimir.

Re: ? Pseudomalus pusillus (Fabricius, 1804), male

Hi Vlad,

I'm not 100% sure that it is Pseudomalus pusillus.
I cannot see the punctuation on the thorax and the lateral view of the metanotum seems to be very simple compared with typical material. We should search in Semenov's paper for similar species.
