Cuckoo-wasps of Poland

Postby Bogdan1234 » 20 Apr 2016 21:53

Dear friends.
I have published a monograph of Polish cuckoo-wasps. The book describes diversity and distribution of Chrysididae in Poland. Chapters deal with adult morphology, biology and protection of cuckoo-wasps. The book includes keys to identification of subfamilies, genera and species. The keys include 110 species of which 96 were recorded in Poland so far. Most of the species are shown on colour photographs. The book is illustrated with 500+ mostly colour images including SEM-images, photographs of the wasps, their hosts, morphology details, more than 90 distribution maps, phenology diagrams etc. There are also 41 anaglyph 3D images showing details of external body structure of cuckoo-wasps. The book is accompanied by the distributional catalogue of the wasps in Poland, as well as appendices listing biotope preferences of Chrysididae in Poland, plants visited by adult cuckoo-wasps and their known hosts.
The book was sponsored by the National Science Centre in Poland, grant No. N N303 804740.

Thanks Bogdan,

Thank you very much for this fantastic volume,
It is undoubtedly the best “Cuckoo-wasps Fauna” ever written!

I want all our friends to know that this is truly a unique volume!
A book to have in the library! Believe me, this is not only a monumental book for enthusiasts on Chrysididae, is a useful volume for all entomologists!

This masterpiece includes hundred of superb colour pictures and SEM pictures, more than any other volume or article published on Chrysididae, also including some pictures of hosts.
SEM-images and detailed colour pictures help the readers and support the keys; colour plates with living specimens complete the iconography of almost every species. All of these pictures are hi-quality, including those takes by colleagues and friends.

And the part dedicated to anaglyph 3D images is the final surprise!
It’s the first time that this technique is used for Chrysididae …
it will leave you breathless! It is simply fantastic and you will appreciate all minute details: punctuation, setae and other morphological characteristics.

Descriptions of biotopes are very detailed and accurate, as well as the lists of host and visited plants. Keys are useful and correct and everyone can easily use them. Also all appendices are interesting, and that of Polish localities is surprisingly detailed.

Conclusion, I consider this book as a primary reference and I suggest everyone to buy a copy.

Lastly … the only pity is that this volume is focused only on Polish species. I suggest Bogdan to go on and write a similar book on the European species, because after Linsenmaier’s main works, we need a new update and serious reference.

Many thanks again Bodgan for this incredible book.
All the Best
