Forster or Förster?

Often there is confusion between two important entomologists: Forster and Förster.

The most famous case within Chrysididae is represented by the author name of Chrysis cyanura [currently Stilbum cyanurum].

Stilbum cyanurum was described by Forster and not by Förster, as erroneously reported in almost all the papers and monographs, including Kimsey & Bohart (1991).

Forster and Förster lived and were active in different historical periods:

Johann Reinhold Forster (1729-1798) was born in Polish Prussia (Dirschau [Tczew]) on October 22, 1739, descendant of an English family that emigrated during the reign of Charles I. He died on December 9, 1798 in Halle (Germany). He mainly worked on Hymenoptera, Coleoptera and Diptera.

Arnold Förster (1810 - 1884) was a German entomologist, who was born on January 20, 1810 in Aachen, Germany, where he died on August 12, 1884. He studied Coleoptera and Hymenoptera.
