Hi, in the beginning of July I saw this C. viridula in my home-area. I'm interested if it is possible to explain where the deformation on the head is coming from. All the best Paul
sorry, I have no time for Chrysididae in the last period.
It's a common teratology. Sometimes this deformation can even separate the compound eye, so that you see 3 compound eyes instead of 2! You can find them everywhere in the chrysidid body, also on the abdomen, and even in this case segments can be totally splitted in 2 parts.
Thanks a lot for your information! it explains also the look of other animals I saw in former times. Although it is not really funny for the animals themthelves, these "freaks" look very interesting sometimes.
by the way: the mesoscutum of this added specimen (from the same place) differs a little bit from the others I saw before. Does this happen often? All the best Paul
