Hedychrum rutilans Dahlbom, 1854 - Azerbaijan

Postby cosmln » 31 Jul 2012 22:53

Ciao,

Also this one is coming from my Azerbaijan experience, this being the second (and last :( ) Chrysididae that I have collected. If I have seen good also this one (a male) is a Hedychrum. Both were collected on flower, one on Achillea and one on Eryngium.

A bigger photo here.

Collected in 19-22.july.2012 near Gedebey (Gadabay)/Small Caucasus, ~1400 m, leg. Cosmin-O. Manci.

Thanks for the help,
:D

Hi Cosmin!
nice tour in Azerbaijan!

I'm not sure about this identification. I would exclude H. rutilans because the shape of the genital capsula. Just compare it with fig. 77 in Linsenmaier 1959 (under the name intermedium) ...

Cheers
Paolo

Hi Cosmin,

take a look at the thickness of the gonocoxae.
In your specimen, they seem to be larger than in the European specimens. Moreover, in your specimen there are subparallel internal sides.

The specimen is more similar to subparvulum Linsenmaier, described from Greece and present in E Europe.

I here post an other line drawing of the genital capsula by Kilimnik (1993) based on the Ukrainian Hedychrum. Here the line drawings are more precise and you can better observe the differences.

Kilimnik described 3 new taxa, but in Caucasus and central Asia more unknown and undescribed species are present.

I cannot say anything more without direct examination of the specimen.
Ciao
Paolo
