Hi Cor,

this is an other male of Hedychrum, this could be the male of nobile, but without more details I cannot be sure 100%. The male of niemelai is also common and very similar.

Cheers
Paolo

Thanks Paolo!

The Dutch wasp Atlas considers the two forms nobile and niemlai too small to merit species status....

Hi Cor,

yes, I know, they follow Kunz (1994).
However almost all the other chrysidologists consider them as valid species. Linsenmaier himself described niemelai as a subspecies of aureicolle and not as as subspecies of nobile, because they are very very clearly separated.

I can tell that there's a friend of mine who found out that they are clearly separated also from a molecular point of view. I cannot tell you more, beacuse the paper will be ready and (hopefully) soon.

Cheers
Paolo
