Unknown chrysis

Postby pietsje » 29 Apr 2013 00:17

I ask this for my friend. His wife found this specimen in their house and were wondering what species this is. My friend makes pictures by stacking them. Found last week in their house, size unknown. Location: southern part of The Netherlands. Hopefully you can make an id.
Kind regards,
Pietsje

Belongs to the Chrysis ignita species complex, a notoriously hard to identify group of species. There seem to be quite a pronounced transverse frontal carina (TFC; the horizontal ridge between the eyes), almost forming teeth in dorsal view (first picture) although its hard to make out, as that part is not in focus. If there is such a dentition on the TFC it should be the species Chrysis "ingita A" (it has currently no proper name).
Nice pictures, Its a female by the way :)

Thank you Alex. I took a stack one day later. There is some line visible from an other angle. Is this what you mean?

Sorry, I left out what angle is the best to view this character. Its from above (dorsal), just as the TFC is visible in your first picture, looking directly down on it.

Thats exactly the right angle, however it is not as dentate as it looked in the first picture, and as such it is not ignita A, and I'm afraid I cannot tell you what ignita group species it is instead.
