Hedychridium ardens (Coquebert, 1801) - CZ

Good evening everybody,

the season of Chrysididae has finally begun in the Czech republic so I was able to capture some specimens yesterday. This one was quite small (5 mm), flying around a sand dune in South Bohemia, Czech Republic.

Can you help ?

Thank you, David

Hi! It looks like Hedychridium ardens to me (though I am not an expert!).

Greetings,
Henrik

Nice pictures!

It is undoubtedly a Hedychridium, and I would also guess at H. ardens, however the punctuation dorsally on the mesosoma ("thorax") is important - do you have a more high resolution crop of the last picture you could post?

Thank you both Henrik and Alex.

I am adding the crop of the thorax, hoping it can help.

Again, great pictures - it looks very much like H. ardens to me, and if it was in Sweden I would be sure it was. I do not know if you have other species in Czech Republic which it can be confused with however. From the cropped picture it is obvious that it is not H. cupreum or H. coriaceum, which (at least in Sweden) are the two other species it can be confused with.

Both punctuation of the notum and golden-red color of scutellum supports H. ardens - I think :)
Best regards,
Henrik

(H. jucundum, a species with somewhat similar coloration, is different, among other things, in both of these aspects. H. krajniki is more like H. coriaceum with respect to punctuation, as far as I remember.)

I can credit all (the little I have) knowledge in this matter in that I stumbled upon this once: http://www.bwars.com/index.php?q=conten ... dychridium

a very nice explanation of the puncture density of the three similar species ardens/cupreum/coriaceum
