Hi,

I hesitate between Pseudomalus auratus and triangulifer. What do you think of it?
(6.5mm - Belgium, 09-09-2016)

Thanks
Christine

Nice pictures!

Its a Hedychrum sp., malei, ts either H. nobile or H. niemelai, although the size makes the latter more probable. Potentially it could also be H. gerstaeckeri but the punctures on tergite 3 seem far too fine for that species.
They cant really be told apart from pictures like these, need to see the small pit/depression on the inner side of the middle tibia to get a reliable ID, which is very hard to photograph adequately on living animals.

Thanks Alex,

I didn't know that Hedychrum has such a notch at the rear edge of T3, but now that you tell me it is an Hedychrum, I've look for the spikes on the side edge of T3, and found this one (pic 6) showing that feature if I'm right.

Does the pic 7 help to confirm that it isn't gerstaeckeri ?

Are those pictures of the inner side of the middle tibia useful to see the form of the small pit/depression ?

Christine

Hi,
Here are other pictures of the pit of the middle tibia, and of the mandibles.
Does it helps ?

Thanks
Christine

Hello,

I've read in the key of '"Hedychrum of Poland "(2015 Bogdan Wiśniowski) that the colour of mandibules differs in males Hedychrum
- Mandibles yellow medially (gerstaeckeri male)
- Mandibles black or darkened, without yellow patch medially (nobile - niemelai male)
https://www.researchgate.net/publication/284722927_Hedychrum_of_Poland_Hymenoptera_Chrysididae#:~:text=The%20most%20commonly%20recorded%20of%20all%20representatives%20of,Head%20in%20full-face%20view%20wider%20than%20its%20height

On my pictures the mandibules are clearly yellow medially ---> male gerstaeckeri ?

Thanks
Christine

Hallo Christine,

yes, H. gerstaeckeri.
Another good character is the elongate black setae on the apical margin of the abdomen.

I'm not sure about the sex ...

Ciao
