Chrysis inaequalis

Postby Paul » 29 Jun 2017 18:53

Hi folks,
today I could notice a new arrival for my home-location.
I've seen Chrysis inaequalis in several other locations I visit during the season.
But... to get reasonable pictures till now I had to wait for the rare moments before the go to bed.
Normally they are very shy and, of course, very quick. Today, after several years observation, I could
see the first specimen in my local area. And, maybe because of the bad weather that was coming up,
the animal was unusual calm and cooperative. So I could thake these pictures and want to share them with you.

All the best Paul

Nice !

I found this species in my region (Besançon, east of France in north of Alpes, lower altitude Jura mountains) : first date for my region :)
(list : 31 species found in Franche-Comté for the moment)
habitat : dry calcareous grassland (Xerobromion-Mesobromion), with mass of fallen rocks, stony blocks, & woody zones (Prunus mahaleb, P. spinosa, Acer opulus, Cornus sanguinea, Fraxinus excelsior, etc.).

Other species found in the same station : Chrysis analis (abundant !), bicolor/illigeri, Hedychridium roseum roseum, Pseudomalus auratus.

Sphecid wasps found in the station :
Ammophila campestris & sabulosa
Passaloecus singularis (on the same shrub than P. auratus, hunts aphids?)
Tachysphex pompiliformis (a male, found next to H. roseum)
Ectemnius fossorius (largest species of the genus in Europe, not common), continuus, lituratus.
Lestica clypeata
Cerceris rybyensis (digger species)
(+ Passaloecus corniger & a Stigmus in may)

Vespidae Eumeninae :
Eumenes papillarius
(+ Gymnomerus laevipes, Ancistrocerus sp & Stenodynerus sp in may).
