Stilbum viride - Madagascar

Postby Benoît G » 14 Mar 2018 23:01

I am new to the forum,
I am a French entomologist and I participated in two missions of scientific exploration in Madagacsar in 2016 and 2017. This project aims to inventory the fauna and flora of an isolated region and very little studied for a research program. conservation.

I have a website where you can discover more: http://passion-entomologie.fr/makay-2017-compte-rendu/

I was able to collect a beautiful specimen of Chrisididae. I'm looking for competent people to determine it. It is likely that the species is new ...

I think I find the right person here.
I remain available to give more information.

Benoît

:welcome: Benoît!

Nice site for Passion of Entomology! :D

I didn't find your specimen on the web-site.
You can post the pictures here and we can try to ID your specimen.
In Madagascar only few species are known, and they are all endemic.

Recently Michael Madl published a list of the known species:

AZEVEDO C.O., MADL M. & M. OLMI (2010): A Catalogue of the Bethylidae, Chrysididae, Dryinidae, Embolemidae, Sclerogibbidae and Scolebythidae of the Malagasy Subregion (Hymenoptera, Chrysidoidea). Linzer biologische Beiträge 42 (2): 845-918

Find You can download it for free from Zobodat

Thank you Paolo ! ;)

I will post photos in the next days.
Which parts of the body do you want to see first to help with the determination?

Hi Benoît!

thanks for posting your pictures.

It's a female of Stilbum viride.

Excluding the nice golden coloration, why do you think it could be new?

Thank you very much Paolo !!
A quick determination :)

I was thinking of a new species because I collected the insect in an isolated and little studied area, made of canyons.

It is a common species and with a wide range?

Hi Benoît,

yes, this species is widespread in the island.
It is a parasitoid of wasps and bees bulding mud nests, therefore the canyon is very likely a good place for its hosts.

Thanks for the pictures!
