Help with Chrysis ???

Postby OlivierO » 17 Jun 2020 09:24

Hello,

someone told me about this forum to determin Chrysis wasps.

To give you an idea: I'm just trying to see as many species as possible and I have no experience with this.

If possible, could someone help me with de determination of this (external link!):

Welcome Olivier,

I think that the identification given in the forum, Chrysis indigotea, is correct

Hello Paola,

thank you for your input and identification! I did not expect such a rare wasp in my garden.

Is it possible to tell me how you determined this?
Kind regards,

Great species 8-)

For ID indigotea :write:

1 : there are no many chrysidini species with all blue-green colour on the body (Trichrysis cyanea, Spinolia unicolor, Chrysis fasciata, indigotea & C. iris).

2 : Spinolia unicolor have no teeth on the last tergit + marginal cell is very opened, Trichrysis cyanea have 3 teeth, Chrysis fasciata 4 + 2 lateral angles (= 6 teeths), Chrysis iris & indigotea have 4 teeths (as the others species of the ignita group).

3 : If I remember, the median part of mesoscutum (=mesonotum = scutum) is darkened than the lateral parts in indigotea, not as contrasted in iris.

Be carreful, Chrysis ragusae (or ragusai ?) is present in south of France and south Germany, but maybe not in Belgium.

Thanks for your reply, Jeromec! I'll have to search the internet to find out what the hell you are talking about, because I don't even know where to start. :-)

But again, thanks!
