Chrysidid etymology

Postby Alex » 05 Feb 2014 19:21

Thought I'd write up a list of all Chrysidid genera and their etymology. I find it easier to use latin (or in the case of many Chrysididae, latinised Greek) when there is some meaning to attach the name to, instead of being just a random string of characters. Additionally I just want to satiate my curiousity.

Much of the information comes from du Buysson 1891-1896, as he gave the etymology of all generic names he used.
Names which I've personally guessed at or am unsure of are marked with "?", corrections, comments and additions are very welcome! I'll update the list as time goes on, will have to look up the original papers to see if I can find the etymology of the missing genera.

Hi Alex!!!

:wohow:
just few weeks ago I gave a similar list to Juho Paukkunen, including the species names, but only for the European genera and the Nordic species.
I will try to complete the missing genera and add some other remarks on other genera too.
Now I'm going to Switzerland, but starting from the next week I'll update this interesting post

:thanks: :thanks:
