Chrysura varicornis (Spinola, 1838) - Spain

Postby Jose Ignacio » 01 Feb 2012 22:52

Hello,
I found this one in El Pardo, Madrid, Spain. 29/5/2011.
Could it be Chrysura varicornis? I am not quite sure neither of the genus, but in the third photo, the smaller at least I think yes it is.

Thanks for your help !

  :wohow: :wohow: :wow: :wow:

Super fantastic pictures!!!
They are Chrysura varicornis (Spinola), correct.

I never found such a small male before!
Did you see also the copula between these specimens?
It is very rare to see Chrysidids in copula.

In Spain there are 2 colour forms of varicornis, this is the second one with golden red reflections on tegulae and thorax. Usually tegulae are green metallic. I collected some specimens the past year, but I still had no time to examine them.

Cheers
Paolo

Thanks a lot Paolo !!
No, I did not see the copula, only brief meeting as the picture shows, so I was not 100% sure they were the same species.

Regards, Jose Ignacio.
