Specimen of C. ignita-group waiting for determination

Postby Paul » 31 Aug 2019 16:30

Hi folks,

here are some pics of an animal I saw in the end of July
on Falcaria vulgaris. The locality was a sandy vineyard and
on these flowers I saw also many Holopygas, Hedychridium and Hedychrum.
The specimen was the only one that belonged to the C. ignita-group. It's a
male and I know, that doesn't make it less tricky to determinate.
But: maybe I've luck and one of you can label it. That would be fine!

All the best!
Paul

Hi Paul,

I found that the habitus, coloration, punctures of T II looks like a male of C. terminata but I can not be sure (there are some others species with these cacaracteristic : C. ignita, maybe C. corusca, or parietis ?, horridula ?, etc). I have no many males, more females. Most of the males specimens I have are a little old (cought and pinted between 1968 and 1993), they’re not all dissected, the mandibles are not very visible... it is not a problem for C. terminata (with the form of the transversal carina), but it is very problematic for others species.

remark : Chrysis parietis and horridula are very hard to differenciate of ignita (only with morphologic measures and calculs, see Orlovskyte & al., 2016).

Hi Jérôme,
Thanks for your comment!
Your thoughts about this specimen go in a similar direction.
In my opinion I was thinking about C. ignita (sensu stricto).
Of course, you are right: C. parietis and C. horridula dont make
the determination easier... In the end I'll have some pics of an
undeterminated specimen and some nice memories of meeting
this animal... ;)
All the best!
