Chrysellampus? --> Philoctetes bidentulus

Postby FrankAe » 24 Jan 2022 01:36

Good evening,

This Chrysididae was fotographed at 22-Jul-2018 close to the stone pit at Boetzingen (Kaiserstuhl).
I was wondering if this could be Chrysellampus sculpticollis or Philoctetes bidentulus, because of the structure of the Mesoscutum. Could you please advice?

Thank you and best regards
Frank

Dear Frank,

your specimen is a Philoctetes bidentulus,
it can be separated by: polished mesoscutum (in Chrysellampus sculpticollis the interspaces among punctures have a typical colliculate sculpture - see the image below), metanotum conical (not conical but elongate in C. sculpticollis), apex of T3 bulged and bronze (vs. bidentate in C. sculpticollis).

Nice pictures :beer:
